Why Study History?

Why is that students find the History subject boring? Usually students would say, that "oh my god! It's History class again, sleeping time.". Why? Is there something wrong about the subject? Is there a problem with the subject or it is just the students? Well, what is History first?  In school it is part of the curriculum. We students are required to take up this subject.

I asked my History teacher when I was in my first year in high school, "Why do we need to read this and that? Is it really that important?" and then she just smiled at me and said "Yes, it is important. To know all the mistake in the past and will never do that again." That is it. It is just for us to know the mistake of the others in the past and put it in our minds that we should never do that again. Do the right one. But still, students do not understand what does it mean. I'm just a student too and find History boring just like the other students.

I really hate History when I was in elementary up until my second year in high school. I just take notes, read thick books for the sake of having good grade. Yes, I passed the exams even though I sleep on my class. It is because I always put in my mind that it is History, I can find it in any book, I can read it in any book. I just read it because in my opinion I know that History is very objective. You memorize everything in the book, you'll passed.

When I'm already in my third year in high school I realized that I'm wrong. I thing wrong about that subject. It is my first time to fail in my History class. And that was tragic. I really go to the teachers nook and asked my teacher why I failed. One thing my teacher said is that I did not analyze the situation that's why all my answers are wrong.

It is not all in the book. After that I realized that History is really that important. It makes us aware what is happening in our country, what our country experienced before our generation, why is that Philippines has a low economy. These are just of the many things that I can learn from History class. And because I'am a BSA student I need to take this course seriously, understand and analyze it because I know that I can use it for me to become a great accountant.
